If you have heard about bouldering and wondering how it works, then here is a short explanation to help bring you up to speed!

Bouldering is the most popular form of climbing due to how easy it is to get started but also how fun and enjoyable it is.

Bouldering does ot require any ropes or harnesses and instead uses large crash mats to help protect you if you fall. Going up to a maximum height of just over 4 metres, you are able to climb in relative safety trying to get to the top of the wall.

Climbing centres like Volume 1 set different routes of all difficulty in different coloured climbing holds for you to try. The idea is that you follow one colour to the top of the wall and these are also given climbing grades so you know how hard each climb is. If you make it to the top of the climb only using those coloured holds then you have completed the climb.

At Volume 1 we have over 200 different routes for you to try and we change a section of our centre every week to ensure there is something new to climb. This means that every 6 weeks the centre has been completely changed!

You don’t need to have any previous experie'nce to get started with bouldering, all you need to do is fill out our AOR form and watch our safety video before your first visit. We will then give you a quick tour of the centre and you are all good to start exploring the world of bouldering. You also don’t need any special equipment as we have climbign shoes for you to rent which are free to try for your first visit.
